The Somali Food Bank is an initiative owned by Somalis that focuses on strategic financing for the acquisition and storage of the local food chain by encouraging of procurement of local production sectors, and the development of the agri-food industry (from production, processing, to commercialization)

The Somali Food Bank Initiative is launching a transformative program that integrates farmer procurement, storage infrastructure, and agri-food industrial partnerships. Our goal is not only to combat hunger but also to unlock the full potential of Somalia’s agriculture, livestock, and fishery sectors to achieve national food self-sufficiency.
We believe that, the Ministry, with the help of the Somali Development & Reconstruction Bank, which as a pillar of inclusive national development, is uniquely positioned to co-champion this effort. Together, we can build a hunger-free Somalia through local solutions and visionary investment.
The Somali Food Bank has presented to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation a draft plan that seeks to support the country’s local producers and emphasize the value of leveraging their expertise to accelerate the Food Bank’s primary objectives, which include acquiring, storing, or delivering dependable food products for the nation’s annual food response plan 2025/2026, for both commercially and in the delivery of emergency aid. This program builds the nation’s economic resilience and disaster prevention, which aligns with the government’s NTP objectives.
The Somali Food Bank is working closely with the Office of the President, and his Special Presidential Envoy to health and nutrition crises in Somalia. This vital appointment reflects our unwavering resolve to confront Somalia’s escalating FNS-C food and nutrition crisis with renewed determination. The challenges we face are urgent and immense. Malnutrition, preventable diseases, and a fragile healthcare system are threatening the lives and futures of millions, particularly our children. There is luck of Preparedness Plan for Food and Nutrition Security Crises, which is a nationally owned and led operational plan that unites all partners to anticipate and respond to extraordinary Food and Nutrition Security crises (FNS-C) in Somalia. The collaboration of Office of the Presidential Special Envoy for Health and Nutrition with the help of the Somali Food Bank Experts will definitely establish a unifying forum for government to bring together all relevant stakeholders when they are most needed to respond to an FNS-C crisis, and as well as create dedicated process for the Somali government to steadily bring its needs to the attention of relevant global and regional partners.
